"The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry."
~ Ernest Hemingway, A Farewell To Arms

"Our lives disconnect and reconnect, we move on, and later we may touch one another, again bounce away. This is the felt shape of a human life, neither simply linear nor wholly disjunctive nor endlessly bifurcating, but rather this bouncey sequence of bumping into's and tumblings apart."
~ Salman Rushdie, The Ground Beneath Her Feet

Mother's Day 2015

This Mother’s Day
Dislocated by time and circumstance
Lost in space and feeling
Undone by life
Smiling and laughter distilled by heartache

Yet three births
Tears of joy as eyes meet eyes
Speaking to the questions of new life
Wonder in the possibilities we held
Sustained at your breast

Moments moved and shifted
Hours elapsing as we blinked and years evaporated
Into mists of dream filled days caring and giving
Giving all you were and are
To three flowers of your delight

Smiling on faces of promise
Tenderness released and shared
By you
The mother of my children
No distraction enough
To forget the forever memories
I still love
