"The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry."
~ Ernest Hemingway, A Farewell To Arms

"Our lives disconnect and reconnect, we move on, and later we may touch one another, again bounce away. This is the felt shape of a human life, neither simply linear nor wholly disjunctive nor endlessly bifurcating, but rather this bouncey sequence of bumping into's and tumblings apart."
~ Salman Rushdie, The Ground Beneath Her Feet

Prism...

My pupils constrict in sunlight
Like time slipping through lost words

Another day
Another night
Another forgotten trip around the sun

Combination of pills to hopefully take away the ache
Dancing with the chemicals
My mind waltzes to a melancholy tune
Until exhaustion sets in

Same place
Each day a return to indecision
And ghoulish thoughts

The lost words scattered on forgotten shores in time
Like my sight refracted through a prism of pain

  1. Most of the time we don't see God at work.We rarely experience His dramatic obvious miracles. Our future is ripped away from us in one way or another. We may sit bereft of all that gives meaning to our lives.
When our backs are against the wall, we are not alone. We may feel alone. But with faith---sometimes faith borrowed from someone else---we begin to realize that God is there. In the shadows, perhaps. But He does keep watch over His own. Our Father sees you and sees me. He often teaches us to trust Him best when we have come to the end of ourselves and our self-sufficiency. When the chips are down and our backs are against the wall, our GOD is still GOD. He is there. We can trust Him and not be afraid.....A.M.
