"The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry."
~ Ernest Hemingway, A Farewell To Arms

"Our lives disconnect and reconnect, we move on, and later we may touch one another, again bounce away. This is the felt shape of a human life, neither simply linear nor wholly disjunctive nor endlessly bifurcating, but rather this bouncey sequence of bumping into's and tumblings apart."
~ Salman Rushdie, The Ground Beneath Her Feet

Addiction - Thinking About A Friend...

“…who but are a few of the beaten and butchered and betrayed and martyred children of the earth,”
~ William Styron, Sophie’s Choice

(Neil Young, The Needle and the Damage Done)

Until you know a person’s story you do not know a person at all. For we all are the sum of our stories, all that has brought us to this present moment in time. Each life is too complex and to beautiful for any of us to think we can be the judge of it. We can however love all the people and their life stories we encounter along our shared journey. And, loving sometimes, often, means resisting the desires to want to fix someone and may mean just letting them go as hard and as painful as that may be.
