"The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry."
~ Ernest Hemingway, A Farewell To Arms

"Our lives disconnect and reconnect, we move on, and later we may touch one another, again bounce away. This is the felt shape of a human life, neither simply linear nor wholly disjunctive nor endlessly bifurcating, but rather this bouncey sequence of bumping into's and tumblings apart."
~ Salman Rushdie, The Ground Beneath Her Feet

My Children's Mother...

I love still

My children’s mother

Once my lover

Dislocated now by time and circumstance

Lost in space and feeling

Undone by life and the heartaches distilled in smiling and laughing

At the births of the three there were tears of joy

Eyes speaking to the questions of new life

Wonder in the possibilities that we held

Smallness of life sustained at your breast

From then till now

Moments moved and shifted

Days elapsed

We blinked and twenty years evaporated

In each dream filled day of unknowing

Always she cared and gave of herself

All she was and is to the three flowers of her delight

Smiling like the sun on faces full of promise

In each kiss, hug and touch tenderness released and shared

A beautiful mother

No distraction enough to forget you

A memory forever

I love still
